Supreme Court Justice Jose P. Perez (left, in white) fires the starting gun to signal the start of the Fun Takbo sa Kaarawan ng Punong Mahistrado, a benefit run for dependents of slain judges, to commemorate the 62nd birthday of Chief Justice Renato C. Corona. Some 1,500 justices, judges and court personnel from Metro Manila participated in the 1K, 3K and 5K runs which started and ended in the Supreme Court. Inset photo shows Chief Justice Corona handing out part of the proceeds to Mrs. Harriet Cipriano, widow of Aparri RTC Judge Andres Cipriano who was shot to death last 18 May 2010. Looking on are their children. Judge Cipriano is the 20th judge killed by assassins, while the latest is Vigan RTC Judge Reynaldo Lacansadile who was murdered less then two weeks ago, on 4 October 2010. Records show that EIGHT judges have already been killed during the election gun ban period beginning 2001.
